Environmental Policy

In carrying out our functions, Mereway Kitchens acknowledges our activities impact upon the environment. We recognise a responsibility to our customers, suppliers, staff and the environment to develop a policy to assess the environmental impact of all our operations. We are committed to demonstrating sound environmental awareness focusing our aims on positive ways in which we can improve our carbon foot print and the effect on environment for the long-term benefit of all.

These aims will be achieved through;

Timber & Wood-based Purchasing

Timber and wood-based product is purchased from responsible importers and shippers and wherever possible from either Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) approved sources. These standards assure buyers that timber is from well-managed forests, setting a criterion for forestry practice which are environmentally and socially sensitive both to the environment and the people whose livelihood depends upon the impact from forestry.

Protecting our staff

We care for and protect our vital workforce through adopting measures including the following:

• Providing up-to-date training on environmental considerations
• Ensuring best-practice always
• Providing a safe working environment with appropriate safety aid

Minimising Waste

We minimise waste generation through fully implementing the following measures:

• Minimising waste by reduced consumption wherever possible
• Recycling packaging, plastics & office paper waste
• Dust & wood off cuts are recycled as a fuel to heat our factory
• Use energy efficient equipment with automatic controls wherever possible
• Use information technology to reduce printed material
• Safe and proper disposal of any waste created that is not recyclable
• Optimisation of delivery scheduling to minimise mileage and reduce need for part loads
• Use rechargeable battery power tools
• Use of environmentally friendly materials as far as possible

Investment

We include environmental and ethical considerations in investment decisions both short and long-term. Pursuing continuous improvement in environmental performance, where reasonably practicable, by setting objectives and targets, especially in addressing the areas of resource by reducing energy and water consumption, increasing reuse and recycling and improving solid waste management methods.

Marketing

Our main forms of communication are distributed electronically to reduce printing which furthermore reduces our carbon footprint. Brochures and pricelists are also available in electronic format to reduce our reliance on printing.

Our Suppliers

We expect similar environmental standards from our suppliers by conducting regular reviews and maintaining an approved due diligence and supplier list with consideration to the environment.

Mereway Kitchens promotes its aims and objectives and will respond positively to enquiries and suggestions from stakeholders inside and outside the company.

All employees have responsibilities for policy implementation by participating and contributing to its success through their actions and suggestions.
